About
Muhammad Aiman is a Shariah scholar and a legal expert. He read both Law and Shariah at IIUM and took his master's in Islamic finance at INCEIF. He is an AAOIFI Certified Shariah Adviser and Auditor, and holds the F.CPIF and CSA designations.
He chairs the Shariah boards of Al-Amanah Islamic Bank and Stronghold Insurance in the Philippines, sits on the Shariah board of Takaful America in the United States, and chairs a number of cooperatives in Malaysia.
On the Amanah bench his work sits where banking, takaful and cooperative finance meet. He teaches as well: Islamic finance and legal courses for practitioners, across several markets.
How Shaykh Muhammad Aiman works
- Chairs, rather than sits. Two Shariah boards in the Philippines and a set of Malaysian cooperatives. A chair owns the agenda and the minutes, not just a vote.
- Reads the law and the Shariah together. He is trained in both. A structure that is sound in fiqh still has to survive the statute it lives under.
- Works across three markets. Banking in the Philippines, takaful in the United States, cooperatives in Malaysia. The same reading has to hold in all three.
The rest of the bench.
